Imagining Future Music

This half-term, take part in a two-day workshop this half-term to create your own futuristic musical response inspired by Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra’s concert performance of ‘Variations on a Hungarian Folk Song’ by composer and folk music fanatic Zoltán Kodály.

Millions of years into the future, the human race have dispersed across the universe to form civilisations on planets we haven’t even heard of yet. Humans have continued to make music, and this music has been passed down through countless generations. What might this music sound like? Does the folk music of the past contain any clues about the music of the future?

Join maverick musician Alex Paxton and students from Trinity Laban on a deep dive into the music of the past and future. Conjure together a new sonic language inspired by a futuristic folk fantasy, and then perform the music created immediately before the Symphony Orchestra’s concert on the final evening of the project.

Fees: £30 / £10 (for those eligible for Free School Meals)

Prices include participation at the two workshop days and two tickets for the Symphony Orchestra concert on Thursday 28th October at 7:30pm, including one ticket for the participant and one additional ticket for a family member or friend.

This workshop and concert experience is aimed at ALL young musicians aged 14-18, across all instruments and musical interests. For anyone studying GCSE Music or similar, the concert will be even more relevant with Kodály a named composer on the AQA syllabus. By taking part, you and a guest also get tickets for the Symphony Orchestra concert on Thursday 28 October as part of the project.
