Trinity Laban (formerly Trinity College of Music) has an international programme of teacher professional development and the mentoring of young performers.

Following a successful 2019 programme in Johannesburg, a series of short courses for music teachers in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban is currently being planned for December 2022.

Please refer back to this page in due course for more information.

Specialist Course for Teaching Musicians:

This six-day course is an in-depth practical programme for instrumental and vocal teachers, discussing best practice in the profession and applying current research in music education. Taught by Tim Palmer, Head of Music Education at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, this programme is a stand-alone professional development opportunity offering a certificate of participation.

The programme is also a gateway to further study online for a Teaching Musician Postgraduate Certificate, with progression available to PGDiploma and, with a short visit to the UK, a Masters qualification.

The programme will inform your understanding of the principal arguments within music pedagogy while supporting you to refine your practical teaching skills. You will be invited to develop your reflective and critical thinking about music education, with the opportunity to join online an international cohort of mid-career professionals through the accredited Teaching Musician programme (please see the programme brochure for fees and entry requirements).

This course will offer:

• Specialist training with music education staff from Trinity Laban’s world-class faculty

• A certificate of attendance

• Progression possible onto the online pathway ‘Teaching Musician’ Post-Graduate Certificate
